Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is Uganda’s smallest national park — but don’t let its size fool you. Tucked in the far southwest corner of the country, where Uganda meets Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mgahinga is a scenic gem and a vital sanctuary for the endangered mountain gorilla.
Covering just 33.7 square kilometers, this park is part of the larger Virunga Conservation Area and is home to majestic volcanic landscapes, ancient bamboo forests, and some of the most breathtaking views in East Africa.
Mgahinga is famously known for the Nyakagezi Gorilla Family, which is habituated and open for trekking year-round. But the park offers more than just gorillas — it’s also one of the few places on earth where you can encounter both mountain gorillas and golden monkeys in the same forest.
